Our Commitment
Marker to Reminder is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your project files and personal data never leave your Mac. We collect only anonymous, de-identified usage analytics to help improve the app.
Information We Collect
Marker to Reminder collects anonymous, de-identified usage analytics through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. This data cannot identify you personally and contains no personal information.
Anonymous analytics include:
- Basic feature usage counts (e.g., how many times markers are converted to reminders)
- General app events (e.g., app launched, reminder list selected)
- Device metadata (macOS version, app version)
Anonymous analytics never include:
- Your name, email, or any personal identifiers
- Your project file names, marker text, reminder content, or any FCPXML content
- Your file paths or folder locations
- Any information that could identify you or your projects
All user identifiers are cryptographically hashed before leaving your device, making it impossible to trace analytics back to any individual. We have no accounts, no user profiles, and no way to identify you.
How the App Works
Marker to Reminder processes your Final Cut Pro project data entirely on your device:
- FCPXML Files: When you drag a project into the app, the FCPXML data is read locally to extract marker information. This data is never transmitted anywhere.
- Apple Reminders: The app uses Apple's EventKit framework to create reminders in your Reminders app. This communication happens entirely on your device between the app and macOS.
- Preferences: Your routing preferences (which markers go to which lists) are stored locally on your Mac using standard macOS preferences. These are never synced or transmitted.
Permissions
Marker to Reminder requests the following system permission:
- Reminders Access: Required to create reminders from your markers. You can revoke this permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Reminders.
The app cannot function without Reminders access, but you are always in control of this permission.
Data Storage
All data remains on your device:
- FCPXML files are read but not copied or stored by the app
- Created reminders are stored in Apple's Reminders app (which may sync via iCloud based on your own settings)
- User preferences are stored in macOS standard preferences location
Third-Party Services
Marker to Reminder uses TelemetryDeck for anonymous usage analytics. TelemetryDeck is a privacy-focused, GDPR-compliant analytics service that does not collect personal data, does not use cookies, and does not track users across apps. You can read their privacy policy at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
The app does not integrate with any advertising networks, crash reporters, or other data collection services. It communicates only with macOS system APIs (EventKit for Reminders) and TelemetryDeck (for anonymous analytics).
Children's Privacy
Our app does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is a productivity tool for video editors with no social features or accounts. The anonymous analytics collected cannot identify any individual user.
Data Security
Your data security is protected by:
- macOS Sandboxing: The app runs in a secure sandbox that limits access to only what you explicitly authorize
- Minimal Network Communication: The app only connects to TelemetryDeck for anonymous analytics. All connections use encrypted transport.
- Local-First Design: All FCPXML processing happens on your device—there are no external servers to be compromised
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our privacy practices, we will update this policy and the effective date above. Any significant changes would be reflected in an app update.
Your Rights
Because we don't collect any personal data, there is no personal data for us to provide, correct, or delete. The anonymous analytics we collect cannot be traced back to you. You have complete control over:
- Your FCPXML project files (stored wherever you choose)
- Your reminders (managed in Apple's Reminders app)
- App permissions (managed in System Settings)
- App preferences (deleted if you remove the app)
